AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

August 20, 2008

1.)    Our “Pro-Life” Senator Casey will speak at Democratic Convention

2.)    Clips from Saddleback Church’s Presidential Forum

3.)    Sign the Petition for the Center for Military Readiness

4.)    Are you registered to vote?

5.)    In God We Trust Poll

6.)    Is your municipality listed?

1.)  Senator Bob Casey is set to speak during the Democratic National Convention next Tuesday, August 26 in Denver, Colorado.  The topic of his speech has not been publicized.

The proposed Democratic platform to be voted on by delegates has a plank for abortion rights that is stronger than usual. "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right," it says.

Senator Casey endorsed Senator Barack Obama before the April 22nd Pennsylvania Primary.  His actions raise questions about how strong his pro-life stands are.

2.)    On Saturday, August 16th Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church held a Presidential Forum which was televised nationally.  Both Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain were given an hour to answer questions and address issues presented by Pastor Warren.  The forum showed sharp differences between the two candidates.  Click here to watch clips of that forum.

3.)    The Center for Military Readiness has created an online petition to the President and Members of Congress concerning the ongoing attempt to overturn the law which forbids homosexuals to serve in the United States Armed Services.   Such actions would have a devastating affect upon military morale and unit cohesion.  Click here to sign the petition.   “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is NOT the law – it is a convoluted Clinton policy.  Click here to read the actual law that was passed by Congress in 1993.

4.)    The General Election is fast approaching.  Are you registered to vote?  The deadline to register is October 6th  ( Click here for registration form.)   and the deadline to get an absentee ballot returned to your county courthouse is October 28th Click here for absentee ballot form to be mailed to your county courthouse.

5.)    MSNBC is currently running a poll about “In God We Trust” and whether it Should be taken off our currency.  Click here for poll.

6.)  Yesterday the AFA of PA uploaded to our website an updated list of municipalities
which have added ‘sexual orientation’ or ‘gender identity’ to their laws. Is your
municipality listed?   Passages of such laws give homosexuals special rights simply
because of the sexual activity in which they engage.  The addition of this language is
yet another attempt by homosexual activists to hijack the civil rights movement.
Homosexuality is not an immutable or unchangeable characteristic like age, sex, race
      or nationality.

Currently there are two attempts in Harrisburg to add ‘sexual orientation and gender identity or expression’ to the PA Human Relations Act.  H.B. 1400 and S.B. 761 are identical bills, in the House State Government Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee respectively.  Click here for a News Release issued yesterday outlining some of the problems if this language is added to laws.

ACTION NEEDED:

1.)  Contact Senator Casey and let him know that a truly pro-life Senator would take the opportunity presented to him next week and speak about life issues and the Democratic Party’s stand on that issue.  Can he be as courageous as his father was in 1992?  Click here for contact information.   Please both send him an e-mail and call his district office nearest you.
