Hooked Math
Name a few things that made you think that math was a turn-off compared to the other subjects?
When you were in school, you might or might not have done well at math. There was probably that one teacher who didn’t deliver the materials in an exhilarating eye-opening way that hooked your interest. Or maybe the subject just didn’t appeal to you whatsoever. There could be that one day that you suddenly found math interesting and it could’ve been some topic or activity that the teacher prepared for the day. What was that topic/activity?
Also, what are some negative qualities that you disliked about math?
let me start off by saying that i have liked math…ever since i was little..and i have no idea y…
math in High School seems absolutely pointless…but now in college, things actually get meaning. calc 1 seems pointless and hard and like it has no purpose, but what you are doing is actually deriving all of the equations that u simply had to memorize in high school, like quadradic formula and volume equations and so on. once u hit calc 3, all it is is hard. BUT, by that point, you are using the concepts you learn in every, and i mean every, engineering class.
the only way to learn math is to do lots and lots of problems. my best calc teacher did 3/4 of all of the problems in the book during class and he assigned the rest for hw…it was alot of work but it actually made it stick, and by about halfwy through it, the problems went a whole lot faster.
anyways, math shouldnt be hated…unless you are an english major or an art major…because then you never have to deal with numbers, even with your paycheck
