Getting my masters in psychology while enlisted in army?
So I am planning on enlisting in the army as a mental health specialist (68x). Right now I am thinking of doing 3 years active. What I would like to do is get my masters while active, but I don’t know how to go about applying to a grad school while in the army when I don’t even know where my first active duty station would be. I don’t want to postpone active duty to attend grad school because the experience is more important to me, but I feel I can do two things at once.
Has anyone had experience with this? Would a MA/PhD be out of the question? I would think that a psych grad degree (MA or MS) would need me to be present or attend class. Are there any actually decent online programs and not just a univ of phoenix type deal? Maybe an executive program but flexible for miltary? With the practicuum the military will give me, and experience, some grad school would have to appreciate that, right?
it depends on where you end up. if you go to a hospitol then you should have enough time for nightschool/dayschool depending on your shift. if you go to a BSB which has 68X’s, then you probably wont get enough time off.
most schools around military bases get that your training comes first and they are relatively flexible.
tried doing a general ed class (forget the subject) when i was on active duty, it met twice a week on tuesday and thursday. i missed half the classes due to training and i got only 2 hours of sleep on tuesday and wednesday night to complete assignments that were due thursday.
