Phd Examiners
I can’t revise my own work, what to do?
I have extremely difficulty in reading my own writing, or in general going through my own work in retrospect(revision). Also, I can’t take criticism or praise objectively, tend to gets too personal with the comments. for example: as soon as i finish writing my exam I submit it to examiner without any revision. i can’t face my own work.Somehow I manged when I was young but now since I am doing phd I can’t escape this shortcoming of mine anymore and facing extreme difficulties with my research.
Please help…………..
This is going to be a real hassle but it’s something you are going to have to overcome – and it’s going to continue to create problems in your research. Firstly, try and figure out why you are unable to take criticism or praise objectively. You are not your paper, or your thesis, or your research. It might help if you try to think of it in the third person and refer to it as ‘the paper’, not ‘my paper’, ‘the thesis’ instead of ‘my thesis’ and ‘ongoing research’ instead of ‘my research’. In other words, take yourself out of the equation and that might help you distance yourself from any criticism or praise.
As for revising Your Own work, that is something you are simply going to have to make yourself do. It’s much easier to just finish the last sentance and hand your work in, but you really do need to take a minute to sit calmy and review it. Again, as though it were something you had never seen before – something that had been done by another person.
