Phd Immunology Uk
Moving from the UK to the USA/Australia as a doctor?
I’m due to complete my medical degree in 2011 and would like to move abroad soon after.
I know there are a series of exams that must be passed to be able to work in the states. Does anyone have any more information on those? What do you do if you pass the exams? Are you then free to apply for jobs in America?
Is the situation similar for Australia?
Would it be easier if I were to complete a PhD in a medical science (immunology) and then try and move abroad using this as my career?
You will do better if you have real life experience before you try to move. Plan to at least get to Senior Registrar before you leave as then you will be a lot more employable. In America you will need to get licenced to practice first before You Can apply for a job with an employer who will sponsor you for a visa.
My background is nursing, I’ve met a few doctors here in the US and I’m not impressed by their range skills and knowledge compared to NHS doctors. If you have a good solid training behind you i the UK you should be very employable here. You will need to pay a lot for malpractice insurance which is why doctors are highly paid here. Don’t expect to see much of your salary.
Only go for the PhD in Immunology if that is what you really want to do for the rest of Your Life. It’s hard enough to adjust to life in a new country but if you don’t enjoy your work life in any country won’t be worth it.

Essential Immunology for Surgeons (Hardcover) $292.35 There has been a huge increase in the knowledge and understanding of the immunological processes involved in surgical practice in recent years. Anaesthesiologists and intensive care physicians are increasingly recognising the significant derangements of immune function in the critically ill patient and the possible therapeutic approaches to manage such patients (including new approaches in transplantation rejections, novel vaccination strategies in cancer treatment, as well as a better understanding of the beneficial effects of standard chemotherapy).Written by recognised experts in their field from both the UK and the US, and extensively referenced for further reading, Essential Immunology for Surgeons provides a concise, up-to-date, and readable account of immunology in general and its translation into key areas of clinical practice. It provides the necessary foundation for a critical understanding of this essential and rapidly expanding area of biological science that underpins and explains the modern concepts of a range of diseases and conditions, encompassing autoimmunity, infection, trauma, cancer, nutrition, organ transplantation, and various forms of therapy.Previously published as Immunological Basis for Surgical Science and Practice, this fully-updated textbook is aimed predominantly at the surgical trainee, but will also be of value to undergraduate and postgraduate clinicians of any discipline who wish to have a better understanding and knowledge of the subject, as well as to researchers studying the various core topics discussed in the book. |

Immunology $70.1 Immunology is a broad branch of biomedical science that covers the study of all aspects of the immune system in all organisms. It deals with, among other things, the physiological functioning of the immune system in states of both health and disease; malfunctions of the immune system in immunological disorders (autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivities, immune deficiency, transplant rejection); the physical, chemical and physiological characteristics of the components of the immune system in vitro, in situ, and in vivo. Immunology has applications in several disciplines of science, and as such is further divided. Getting a PhD in Law by Morris, Caroline; Murphy, Cian Edition , $22.99 Getting a PhD in Law is a unique guide to obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Law in the UK. While there is a wide range of study guides for PhD students in the social sciences and other science-based disciplines, there is very little information available on the process of obtaining a PhD in law. Research degrees in law share some attributes with those in related disciplines such as the humanities and social sciences. However, legal methodology and the place of the PhD in law in the young lawyer’s career create unique challenges that have not been addressed by existing guides. Getting a PhD in Law fills this clear gap in the market, providing an accessible guide to the PhD process from topic selection to thesis publication. This readable and informative guide draws on interviews and case studies with PhD students, supervisors and examiners. Getting a PhD in Law will be essential reading for the growing numbers of PhD students in the UK’s many law schools—and those internationally who wish to learn from UK best practice. |

Immunology by Hannigan, B.M.; Moore, C.B.T.; Quinn, D.G. Edition , 2 $34.49 This second edition of Immunology provides readers with the basic concepts of immunology and relates these to the practical applications within medicine and biology. It is therefore an ideal first textbook for students studying biomedical science courses or postgraduate students new to the subject. The entire book has been comprehensively updated and features significantly expanded coverage of, for example: •antigen acquisition and presentation •regulation of acquired immune responses •transplantation and tumour immunologyThroughout every chapter the authors have also provided extensive coverage of the applications of immunology to diagnostics in particular. The inclusion of a glossary in this new edition is designed to improve understanding and help students overcome their inherent fear of the complex field of immunology. In addition, this latest edition features two new appendices covering selected cytokines and their functions, and selected CD antigens and their expression, reference material that all those who work in the field will find invaluable.Reviews: …as a work of reference for basic immunological concepts, this book is perfect. Tove Ragna Reksten, Scandinavian Journal of Immunology …The level of information is thorough throughout…[this book] would provide an excellent handbook to junior immunologists (undergraduates, new graduates, research assistants and those new to the subject) by providing a readable and understandable overview, while managing (mostly) not to be too basic or too complex. I would recommend this text book to immunology labs as an early-stage, easily readable guide to the very broad subject area of Immunology… Barbara Guinn, Cancer Sciences Division, University of Southampton, UK |
