What are my chances of getting accepted into PhD Clinical Psych program in NYC?

I’m applying to 8 different schools in the NYC area, which is highly competitive. I went to a decent college (Oberlin), and am about to get my Masters in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from a CUNY school, having been working full-time as a secretary throughout. Good and bad notes: My general GRE scores were 1200 compiled, and my subject test score was really poor. My GPA is a 3.44. I am part of a research team, though, and am planning on focusing my studies on transgender youth, which is kind of unusual. My entry essay was pretty damn good, as I worked on it with several people. Thoughts? Questions? I’m feeling not-so-good about it, as nothing really makes me different from other applicants other than the transgender bit.

Well to be honest a 3.44 is on the low side for a PhD program, usually they have a GPA cutoff of 3.5 or above. A 1200 GRE is probably below average as well, but there’s a chance you could make it through the first round of cuts depending on the applicant pool.
